Jane Millum

Jane is an artist and illustrator whose work explores emotional responses to personal narratives as informed by locations, objects and loved ones. Working in paper through mixed media drawings, collage and print, she also works in textiles and stitch under the name PollyWhistle.

In both areas, Jane creates collections based around a theme or a story, often inspired by memories and mementoes, tall tales and quirky truths with unexpected origins. Her processes and projects are influenced by her interest in folk art, country lore and the stories handed down through families.

At times Jane creates characters and the worlds they inhabit, explored in the form of books, “museums”, maps or any other format that takes her fancy and fits the narrative. All her work is based on what she sees, knows and imagines but which is true and which is not remains hers alone to know.

Jane runs a varied programme of workshops at the Gallery and is one of the Directors of Grantham Creates C.I.C.
